Damaged Lungs
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am on my soapbox today. We are all told that our lungs are damaged. Not destroyed but damaged and that means there should be a away for them to heal. From what I understand it is a problem with inflammation that is stopping the healing. So if we can control the inflammation and we can rest enough shouldn't there be some way that we can promote healing to the damaged parts of our lungs? If we have a broken bone, or have an ulcer or torn muscles, we rest and allow the body to heal. Why isn't… read more

David, you're right that stem cell injections have worked in some areas of the body; however, the lungs aren't one of them. Stem cell treatments offered for lungs are scams at this point.

Lowering the inflammation generally means that mucous production is lowered; it does not heal the lungs. The damage already done to the lungs cannot be healed; the tissue needs to be removed and replaced and right now we can remove, but we can't replace except with a transplant. Your lungs haven't been destroyed, because there still is good tissue that does the work of the lungs, but the damaged areas could just as easily be called destroyed because they have had structural changes that don't allow them to do what they could do before. They aren't destroyed, but they also don't do what they're supposed to do. I wish it were as simple as reducing the inflammation!

your own stem cells are used which are obtained by a liposuction procedure. The stem cells are then processed and reintroduced into your body via nebulizer and IV. It is done on an out-patient basis and takes three to four hours. I dont know to what degree this benefits anyone, if at all, but the results for me are life changing. I have had my treatments done at Innovations Medical in Dallas,Tx.
