my late hubby had a double lung transplant,it consists of many many appointments and you must be approved by the transplant team when you are approved you must do what they say ,you belong to them .there are many blood tests also you must be on the waiting list and that could b e len gthy as there are alot of people on it and you must be matched with the donor,it took a couple years for late hubby to get his tranplant . you must also have a good family support system . as well as fund raising to help pay for motel or hotel expenses .there is alot to this. and yes medicare paid for his transplant , this was 11 years ago not sure about now with all thats going on also you will have a social worker from the hospital only certain hospitals do it ,Sometimes they use live donars sometimes not. it you would like to tal;k to me about this i would be happy to talk to you my# (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators) there is so much to this . hugs hope toi talk to you soon anne

@A MyCOPDTeam Member I would find it a very difficult choice to make. I want to live, I have no religious objections, but to be honest I think I would say no, and I don't really have a reason. Maybe I feel I've done my shift and accepted my lot and although 64 is young(ish) it's more than was expected when I was born.
And now I don't want to post this and influence you.
I think you have to be brave to decide either way and wish you the best. ☺ 🍀

There is a group on Facebook called (Quit Smoking to Breathe Easy. Just Say Nope.) Joanne Luliucci has had lung transplant surgery done. You might want to join the group. Deborah is a member and they are very helpful. Along with this group you will have more knowledge. Good luck!

I have to say that my pulmonary Dr.said that you have to go to 6 months of rehab first and it has to be at the hospital where the transplant will take place. For me that is Ohio state in Columbus,60 miles one way and it would be at least 2 to 3 times a week,so that's out of the question! The real reason tho is not the distance,it is that i am a Christian and i'm not gonna cheat God out of bringing me home to be with my Lord and Savior,Jesus Christ.
