Had a cold last week and felt rotten like you do.
At the weekend I got "the cough" went to gp on Monday and got anti b's and a 5 day course of steroids . Told I am wheezesy but no crackles so no infection.
Well here I am at 2.30 am on Thursday coughing myself silly.
Should I go back to GP? My stomach and back ache like crazy due to the coughing.
I don't want to block an appointment slot, if there is nothing they can do.
Advice please,
Thanks
Gill
@A MyCOPDTeam Member 11 Hope you're feeling better. My rule of thumb is , after antibiotics and prednisone, if I'm coughing, no appointment is wasted, making sure you don't have pneumonia or sepsis or both. This is serious. It is real. We must be careful with ourselves to make sure we have the best out of life. Being sick isn't that. Blessings and prayers for you.
@A MyCOPDTeam Member. My pulmonology md remembers my former pulmonologist and thorasic. surgeon and has done a great job for me. I should have gone sooner, but doubt with the lung I have, it would have changed much. We have a familial weakness in respiratory issues and I'm the one in the family that got that gene. RA went to the others. I use my n.p. for NOW needs, as pulmonary medicine is so heavily scheduled. I see her every 4 to 6 months , unless there's been a change. Stick with routine staff who know and listen to you, not get a different doc each time. Above all...continuity and consistency. Massively important. Set a routine, I'm still struggling with mine. Combining breathing, exercise as tolerated and meditation can help a lot. Especially in anxiety situations. Plan ahead. Go in peace. Happy Holy week.
Yes, go back to doc. In the past. I've coughed so hard, I broke ribs! I have osteoporosis
Did they do a chest x ray? I don't know where you live, but I'd get a script and get an x ray to rule out pneumonia. You may not be crackling now, but walking pneumonia can sit and swelter for a while before it takes you down. I would not play games with it. Get back to the doc and get the x ray.
Call your doc and explain what's going on, then do what they tell you to do. I would also find a pulmonologist. Your GP, who is probably a good one, doesn't know the appropriate treatment for COPD, how to treat flares, what current meds and treatments are, so you're probably not getting the best care from him. Find a pulmonologist so you get the best treatment and care all the time.
