MaryAnn, talk with your doc about a good exercise program, or a referral to pulmonary rehab. My guess is that you could get a good deal stronger and you could ride that Harley for short distances at least. If you really want to do it, I think you can. It will take a lot of hard work on your part, but you could do it. I know several guys who use O2 and ride and camp regularly with their portable units.

MaryAnn, do try the treadmill, but here are a couple of tips before you jump right on. First of all, if you get on that thing and try to go at a speed you think is normal, you're going to run out of air in the first 30 seconds. I know; been there. So turn the thing down to the slowest it will go and see how long you can walk before you have to stop for breath. Then rest and catch your breath and do the same thing again, for the same amount of time. Do it again until you've walked for 30 minutes. Then tomorrow do the same thing and the next day. Then the fourth day, push yourself to do 30 second to a minute more before you stop for breath. Keep adding to the time little by little until you can walk for 30 minutes without stopping. Then you can add speed, time or distance, very slowly, but keep building. You'll be amazed at how much better you feel and how much more you will be able to do much more comfortably. Exercise really works.

I am kinda new to this disease myself and I'm still finding simple things that i can't do. I've yet to try a camping trip since being diagnosed. I am sorry to read about your story that is a big change.. But with the support of our spouse and other family and friends we can make the changes that we need to.

Check with your doc about pulmonary rehab. Exercise, breathing techniques, dietary and socializing with others with same/similar conditions

77, but hey that is just a number, don't let that stop you, the only thing that should stop you is if you tried everything and just cant do it, like try exercise first to see how it goes, I am going to take my own advice and get busy with exercise as I don't so it, you are the same age as my eldest brother and he skis every winter with his wife and they both have done long distance biking carrying ? lbs of equipment, he has gone from NS to Ontario and further, just this year he has decided that he wont do the long distance but not going to give up the skiing and biking, he sure keeps trim, just take it one day at a time and don't completely tell yourself its time to stop what you love doing, have a great evening and breathe easy friend
