Using Oxygen While On Vacation
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm planning a vacation for a week. I'm on oxygen with cpap nights and don't want to haul my big concentrator with me. Any advise?

@A MyCOPDTeam Member....I was given a big concentrator for use at home and some small oxygen bottles for mobile use. I hated the bottles, and asked my doctor if he could get me a portable unit instead. I am going out of town for just a weekend next week, and will take my the portable oxygen unit with me that I just got yesterday from my provider. I thought about taking my big concentrator, but decided to try it with just my portable. It is supposed to be able to be used continuously according to the manual if it is plugged in. Mine is an Oxygo. I don't know much about it yet. I had no choice in brands I have used it the past two days when my husband and I went out for a couple of hours.

My provider of my oxygen also said they could have a unit sent to where I was going, so perhaps your provider can either loan you a portable or provide a concentrator where you are going....you might call them and ask.

My provider delivered a concentrato to where I was going so you don't have to take your own. I have an Oxygo also but it only delivers up to 5 liters of oxygen. If you depend on this while you are gone then you will have to be charging batteries all the time.

@A MyCOPDTeam Member....I just came back from a weekend at the lake with my girl friends and I took my Oxygo and just used it as a concentrator 24/7. I even used it to sleep with. ...and you are right....you have to either be plugged in or charge it regularly. ....but it worked for me so I was glad. I did take a 25 ft tube to use to extend the cannula, but did not use it.

@A MyCOPDTeam Member......I guess I was unclear about the concentrator loan! By provider, I meant the provider of my Oxygen concentrator for my house and my portable unit for when I go out. My company is Lincare, that works with medicare and my insurance company. When they first brought the equipment out, they told me if I travel, that they can have a concentrator delivered to where ever I was staying to use while I was there. supposedly they have offices all over the country. These companies bid with the government i my state to see who gets the medicare service so it may be different where you live.

I assumed if you were getting your oxygen through insurance and a provider that it might work for you too. If you aren't covered by insurance I guess you would have to purchase outright.....yikes!
