Does Anyone Know If The Wei Institute Herbal Treatments Work. Has Anyone On The COPD Team Actually Tried The Treatment?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

Regarding the question "does anyone know if the Wei Institute herbal treatments work". I see a few responses that say it is a scam, but has anyone on the COPD team actually tried the treatment and if so, what were the results? My physical rehab therapist has seen very positive results in 3 of 5 patients. One was able to get off oxygen and her FEV1 went from 30% to 50%. Anyone with first hand experience trying the Wei herbal treatment?

I did the treatment for two months, it did help somewhat however I ended up in the hospital for bowel obstructions due to some of the herbs. When I called them and explained what had happened to me I was able to return the pills left and received a refund.
Some of the herbs are also available via a naturopath or integral doctor recommendation at a much lower cost.

I am currently trying the herbs from Wei Institute.
I was diagnosed with COPD in February of 2017 and I am on oxygen.
My FEV1 was 17% on August 27, 2018 - Lung age - 122 years
My FEV1 was 19% on January 2, 2019.

No one has shared any recent tests.
I have had a CT scan and a PET scan and there is no clear evidence of having lung cancer but my Pulmonologist is concerned. I will be taking another CT scan in the first part of May.

As far as the Wei Institute herbs, I am taking Soup A, Soup B LC Balancer and CL.
The dose is supposed to be taken 3 times a day, but I have only been taking 2 does a day.
I cannot not really tell any difference and I have been taking the pills for 4 weeks now.
But I too, am having gastrological issues such a grumbling stomach and diarrhea so I have recently stopped.

With the coronavirus going on and the fact that diarrhea is one of its symptoms, I stopped taking the herbs until I know that is what the diarrhea is about and not coronavirus.
As far as I know, I have never been exposed to the virus but I have not been tested.

Also, last november, I had a stem cell treatment and I was told that I should see improvement within 90 days. That has not happened either.

I just want to breathe easier and not have to be on oxygen.
But my hopes are fading.
I am beginning to think I will be like this until it gets so bad I die from it.

I have taken the three herbs 21 capsules a day for almost three weeks. Had severe gastro issues. Ended up in the hospital for one week. Was contacted by the sales person for the refill and when I mentioned that I was in the hospital and probably not interested in re ordering given the problems I had even though maybe not related, but was interested in returning the unopened packages, which the practitioner I was assigned said it should not be a problem to return, I didn’t even receive so much as two lines in response. In addition after re reading their website recommendation and my symptoms I only needed the two soups not the third one. Definitely a selling practice with “one size fits all” approach and horrible customer service. Prompt in contacting you when you need to order.
Disappointing especially given the cost. A reputable herbalist/acupuncturist can provide the same herbs in a natural form and targeted to your specific circumstances.

Hi 747,
I have been taking Wei Labs Soups A and B and LC Balancer for about 6 weeks now. I have noticed a huge improvement in my breathing, at times, so much so that I forget to take my inhalers when I wake up and that is a huge improvement for me. I also did acupuncture at the same time as the Soups. I was feeling incredibly healthy and better than I have felt in years. I can't tell you how strong I felt! My O2 went up to 98 then 99 and once 100! That was unheard of for me. I was down in the 94 range at rest. I can't attribute it all to the Soups because at about the same time, I quit smoking and started exercising.
I recently had to get off the Soups because I developed some gastro issues that I now think are lactose intolerance but couldn't say for sure at the time so i thought I should eliminate variables to find out what the problem was. I have decided it is likely due to dairy so I am going to go back on the Soups. Since being off the Soups, I don't feel like I breathe as well. I don't feel as good as I did while on the Soups. I plan to go back on them, stay on them for another 6 weeks, and then do a breathing test and then move to a pill form that is much cheaper.
In addition, my pulmonary therapist has information of yet another patient that saw a 10% improvement in FEV1 after 6 weeks so I think this stuff really does work. I will let you know how it goes. You do need to find a doctor that you an work with. I think the Wei site has doctors listed buy state. I am going to a doctor of oriental medicine for the soups, acupuncture, and herbs.
It is about $1,000 a month for 3 months, then the pills are about $200 a month for another 3 months. I guess I looked at it like I am financing my life much like i would buy a used car, plus, I am still working so had some income to put towards this. I just got so tired of hearing just keep sucking on these inhalers until you need oxygen and then there is nothing else we can do that I thought it was worth it to try something else.
Having said all of this, I think the MOST IMPORTANT thing you can do is EXERCISE and BREATH DEEP.

Thank you. I am just trying to find out if anyone has tried it and has had any improvement. I don't put much credence in the decision of the insurance industry as it relates to the effectiveness of treatment. The insurance industry is all about profit as is the $6000 for the herbal soups, but if it improves lung function and diffusion, it is worth looking at, unless it is a scam. That is what I am trying to determine. I do think exercise is key to longevity with COPD.
