How Does A COPD Patient Go To Events Or Even To Doctor Visits When They Can Rarely Breath Walking Over 100ft?

I was sent to pulmonary rehab....No places to park..... It was so far away from parking I could barely breath by the time I got there. I exercise at home on a treadmill every day...sometimes it takes an hour to get in a 15 minute walk,, is it beneficial even to walk 5 3minute walks

@A MyCOPDTeam Member, do you have someone to drive you, or a mobility scooter that you can handle yourself?

While I’m preparing myself for a less independent lifestyle while planning ahead to buy a mobility scooter when the time comes, and either accessing public transportation / transportation assistance when the time comes, I don’t know how safe you will feel trying to navigate the world on your own with tools like a scooter, self-driving or driving-assisted car, or other handicapped assistance for transportation that might be available in your region or within your budget.

I’m sorry I don’t have any practical, first-hand experience yet to be more helpful or informative.

The VA hospital here in Tucson come to your car and take you to the proper clinic. They're wonderful.

My pulmonary rehab would send someone down with a wheelchair to bring me up to rehab from parking lot. Otherwise I never would have made it

I agree, @A MyCOPDTeam Member - I recently had to have a test at Stanford Medical Hospital / university. They ONLY allow valet parking and self-parking is a huge hassle. It never cost anything because I was always in and out under an hour. The test I was having took over an hour and cost $12 in surprise parking fees. They were lucky I always have money to tip the valet. Because I had just enough for parking, there was no tip that day. Very sad that the policy wasn’t explained.

No.that is correct,i recently had to hire a special medical type type taxi that has a wheehchair equipped van at$50. a pop to drive me to my pulmonologist office for an appointment because of no available parking. Its rediculous if you do not have anybody to drive you and drop you at the door and park your car your screwed.everything is so money oriented all they eem to care about is how much they will make,it become a business not a calling.

@A MyCOPDTeam Member - there is a huge gap between reasonable care and pandering and neglect. It is not unreasonable to demand accommodations. Have you looked into this scooter lift for trucks and cars to see if you can use it for the segway?

I have avoided my Pulmo Doc for 5 months now. I had a fractured spine back in Oct.'18, and could no longer carry my portable oxygen, had to have someone else carry it for me. It is a long long way down the hall to his office, they have wheelchairs available, but with a fractured spine you cant use a wheelchair with out someone to push it. I had my wife part of the time, but she was missing so much work, taking care of me and her Mother, it was getting bad at her job. I have a primary doc I've seen a couple of times since then, cuz his office a just a few steps from the curb and parking spots. I have a Segway that i use to get around with, but with my back i cant lift it up into the pickup. I have used Lyft car service a couple of times, but that gets expensive...... It really sucks sometimes for the disabled, but I understand the gov't cant afford to give every one of us a personal caretaker 24/7. God Bless You All ! I pray for God to take care of all of us who are disadvantaged.
