Talk with your docs about what YOU can do to improve things for yourself. Ask about exercise, diet, weight control, medications, etc. Most of the things that make us better aren't meds; they're the hard things: daily exercise of at least 30 minutes; getting as close to a normal weight as possible, eating a healthy diet, getting to your doc as soon as you know you've got something respiratory. If you have moderate COPD, with a good exercise program and weight control, you can live a very comfortable life doing just about anything you want. The better shape you're in, the more you'll be able to do with friends and family. The biggest problems people with COPD face are isolation, anxiety and depression. If you're able to do things with your friends and family, you probably won't be plagued with any of those things. If you are, seek therapeutic help. Don't just take meds, learn how to manage and control the anxiety and depression, just like your learned to control your COPD.

Enjoy life, live it to the fullest and don't dwell on the darn stages. Let your body tell you how you feel and how much you can do. Don't push it beyond it's limits and pat yourself on the back for it. Give your body a break when it needs it, but keep as active as you can. That means mentally as well as physically. Hubby has lived with it at end stage for many years and done quite well following his body's advice. He has come to the end now and it isn't the COPD killing him, nor his Congestive Heart Failure, but cancer. He turned 80 in September and has been a wonderful example of a man with good work ethics. Now the job of dying with dignity begins. I know he will be a shining example in that at well. Again I repeat, enjoy your life to the fullest and treat your body well. It won't fail you if you don't push it beyond its limits. Good luck, God bless, and hugs.
