Why Do I Have A Chronic Cough? My Doctor Told Me To Use A Nasal Spray. It Does Help A Little Bit I Still Cough.
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I use the medicine with three medicines. I can't think of the name. It helps with breathing but the cough is constant. My doctor told me to use a nasal spray. It does help a little bit but I still have a chronic cough. Will anything else help? Some kind of tea? Are honey? I occasionally bring up phlegm.

I drink hot tea with honey. I also found out that some of the women use salt inhaler. Bought from Amazon. I just got mine and I have been using it. Works well, I am pleased. I did have a cough from a different blood pressure medicine, so it was changed. I did see a pulmonologist because I thought I could get in the rehab problem; however, he told me I didn't qualify. I do not use oxygen and my PFTs (pulmonary function tests) showed well preserved lungs; I do have COPD but have chronic bronchitis as well. you know years ago, when the 50s , our parents did not know the risks; so my pulmonologist agreed with the treatment plan my primary care provider is giving me, so I don't see the pulmonologist. Talk to your pulmonologist if you feel the need and he will be able to clarify things more. Ask lots of questions. I hope this helps some. Hugs!!

Hot tea with lemon and maybe a splash of something more fortifying (my grandmother would have disapproved, but she's not here anymore) certainly can help. Hot tea with honey and lemon also works, if you're not inclined towards more fortifying. As to why you have the cough, it could be part of your COPD. Coughs are also indicative of GERD, so that's something to think about. Coughs can also be the result of a specific blood pressure medication, so think about that, too. If you don't have a pulmonologist, you probably need to get one to help answer some of these questions.
