There are lots of people who get off O2 once they go on. Often when people are discharged from the hospital, they're on O2, but within a couple of weeks, they no longer need it. I got off O2 for 8 years after I lost over 100 pounds and developed a really strong exercise habit. I went back on because I wasn't able to keep my sats up while I exercised.
The reason you use O2 isn't necessarily to make your breathing better, it's to be sure your O2 saturation levels are high enough to be sure you don't develop right heart failure and brain damage. O2 does help breathing in some situations, but not for everyone.
Yes especially on hot humid days. I was having increased pulse and contacted my doctor. They did a test and I have Afib. New medication for that is helping my breathing. Always talk to your doctor to make sure it’s not another problem.
@A MyCOPDTeam Member of course we all have trouble breathing on oxygen. Our lungs are not normal any more. Without it our breathing would be much worse. Its not a cure because there is no cure for COPD but we pray for one. At least I do. There are some people that can do without it for periods of time but I have never heard of anyone getting completely off it once they were put on it. At rest I can go to 3 ltrs but if I am active I have to go to 4 but those are my doctors instructions. You need to ask yours to see if it will be alright or not.
Yes at times
God bless you both.
