LVRS is a surgery that can make a big difference for people who qualify for it. You have to have significantly more damage to the upper lobes than the lower lobes, so they can remove the upper lobes completely, allowing the lower lobes to rise up off the diaphragm and take over. People who have upper lobe damage and poor exercise tolerance are good candidates. Noe a lot of places do it any more, and you would need to find a doc with a good track record. Columbia Presbyterian in NYC is one of the best.
