You have given me a dose of encouragement Jean...Have not been exercising have no energy and awful weight gain...just a little scared but will forge ahead.
Thanks for the wise words...just a post can encourage many.
As our COPD seems to get worse and worse and we do less and less, we eat as much as we always did, and we gain weight. So yes, many many people gain weight with COPD. Ad to that the weight we often gain when we quit smoking and you may be talking about 50 or 60 pounds in a relatively short period of time. That means new clothes, hating to look in the mirror and feeling worthless, or at least not as good as you once did.
There is an answer to this problem. Exercise and diet can make a huge difference. I know. In 2003 I decided to take the bull by the horns and started a very aggressive exercise and diet program. Over 18 months I lost over 100 pounds and developed an exercise habit I still have. It's very possible.
Start by talking with your doc about exercise. You may get a referral to Pulmonary Rehab, and take it if you possibly can. I didn't have a program to go to, so I did mine at home using a treadmill and a bike. Soon I joined the local gym because I then had access to lots of weights, which I didn't have at home. I learned a lot from other people there. They saw the routine I did while there and many were impressed that I could do so much with the lung function I had. The best part were the young 20 somethings.....great eye candy!! So there are lots of reason to go to a gym :) !!
Yes my meds has taken my model figure and given me the figure of the fat ladie who sings
Sure is
Love you anyway
I have the same problem. My weight goes up before it goes down. I'm sure it would help a lot if I could lose the weight. Very frustrating.
