I have been perscribed continuous oxygen at 3lpm. My head feels like i have a sinus infection! Runny nose and eyes, lots of sneezing and blowing, etc. Is this normal?
Continuous will make your nose run and even dry it out abit. This is normal. There are 2 liter tanks which are pulse sensitive and the larger tanks also. A regulator accomplishes this and can be set for 2-3-4,or 5 liter. However there are portable machines that provide pulse with 2-4 hour batteries see Inogen . With Medicare you may qualify and get one free. I can sleep with it plugged in at any setting, plus you can drive or go out *** but with the virus, the machine is drawing from unfiltered atmosphere, so I use the small tank and pulse regulator. I've been on oxygen 3 yrs. If you have any questions feel free.
If you have an oximeter, use it to see what your saturation levels are. If they're above 95, try turning your O2 flow down a bit and see if that relieves some of the problem. You could also be reacting to something in the hose. You could rinse the cannula and/or the hose and dry it out in the microwave or low oven to see if that does something to help. Sometimes the O2 will dry things out, so you could talk with your provider about adding some humidity to the concentrator. If this persists, talk with your doc to see what ideas they have to help.
Still waiting hubby had his all ok .
