If you want to get better you will quit smoking. No one can do it for you - it has to be your decision and you must be the one to do it. Just throw them out.

As Jean said, if you don't you will get worse. You sure won't get better. The good thing is that IF YOU QUIT you can and will get better, and if you want to get better you must stop.

For me it was absolutely no problem. I was terrified when I couldn't breathe. I wanted to live so I put the cigarettes down the day I entered the hospital for extreme shortness of breath. I never touched a cigarette again, and my husband who was also a smoker, quit too for me, though it took him quite a while longer. He immediately quit smoking in the house , but he did continue for a while outside only.

Bottom line is - if you want to get better you have to quit smoking. It is just that simple. Being able to breathe is the reward and it is worth it. I hope you make the decision to stop smoking. Best of luck.

Hypnosis worked for me. I have not had to smoke in 30 years. I wish I had quit sooner.

If you have a lung disease, you need to quit smoking. You probably know that, but I will say again, if you don't stop smoking, things are just going to get worse. Death by cigarettes is really slow and difficult, but possible if you work at it long enough. It's just not a good way to die.

That said, my best suggestion for quitting is to find a health specialist who's been trained to work with people who need to quit. They will help you identify your triggers and help you find the aids both prescription and otc that can help you best. Some also offer support groups and mentors; they all use local support groups and help lines to get you through your bad times. They generally have very good success rates; much better than going it alone. The big thing is you need to want to quit. Without that, you're almost certain to continue smoking.
