Hi and good morning @A MyCOPDTeam Member,
Your phlegm is a good indicator as to the state of your COPD, if there is more than normal then consult your pulmonologist, especially if your phlegm is coloured in any way , a dark colour will indicate things are not as they should be, must be taken as a matter of urgency . there are side effects from other medication so an eye must be kept on what is said in the print outs from other medication . Stay safe hugs.
Breath easy.
God bless,
Peter x
@A MyCOPDTeam Member🙇🏼‍♀️🙌 The pearls referenced above are Tessalon Perles and are used to calm a cough.
This is used to treat a cough caused by the common cold or other breathing problems. (Pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma, emphysema.) It works by reducing the reflex in the lungs that cause the urge to cough.
Hope this explanation is helpful.
Do you have allergies? How much water are you drinking? Are you exposed to second hand smoke? Are you wheezing? Have you tried prednisone to help dry up the phlegm? Does your pulmonologist know what over the counter cough medicine? It doesn’t necessarily mean your COPD is worse it could be one of the meds you are taking. Or something else. If I don’t flush my sinuses and use my allergy nasal sprays I can get in a way as well. I think you should talk with your pulmonologist or if you have an allergist. Check your meds and read your papers they give you with your meds. Sometimes we just have to take certain meds separately from the rest.
You know I’m not a Dr. just some input. Hope you get this straightened out. God Bless you and Breathe Easier
Praying for you
thank all of you for your help and i have appt. tuesday i will let you know thank you again
Phlegm in your throat will make you cough. Pay attention to what you are eating and drinking. There are lots of foods that cause phlegm and foods/drinks that help with it. For example, dairy foods are usually number one Phlegm causers as well as gluten, fried foods and anything sugary. Some people have real or slight food allergies that will produce phlegm. Also, if you have any reflux you need to take care of that because it causes mucus too. People react differently to different foods, so you need to possibly log what you eat and see what is causing your excess mucus. Controlling the mucus will help control the coughing.
Pineapple juice helps with coughing for many..... Lemon juice too. Here is a web site that explains about food and mucus. It is geared towards copd patients and has some good information.

Drink lots of water and study what you are eating and drinking. you may be able to reduce the coughing and mucus once you know what triggers it.
