Skin Tears
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

Any suggestions for thin skin issues. My skin will tear from just about anything, even a wrong rub on a pillow. I know that the prednisone has a lot to do with that. I can't remember the last time that something on my body was not bandaged up with antibiotic ontiment. I have a couple that are so bad that I am taking oral antibiotics as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As we all age, we lose collagen in our bodies and especially the skin. Skin becomes very thin, dry, and easily scratched or torn. Bruising occurs from blood pooling, likely due to poor circulation. Most all of us will experience it as we age. Nothing to be ashamed of. Recently had several scraps on right hand that became infected and developed into cellulitis and was treated with antibiotics for 7 days. Just one of those old folks things. LOL

I have something called Arnicare and it does help to lighten the bruises quicker. It’s not thick or heavy. You might want to try it. 😊

I had the same issue and my dermatologist recommended Dermend. You should be able to tell a difference in 2 weeks.

@A MyCOPDTeam Member. Guess what. I was on Symbicort for four years…I was constantly bruised, especially on my hands, when I know I didn’t bump them. I started Trelegy in its place about a week ago and it just occurred to me that the bruising has stopped completely. I also feel good now whereas before, I felt weirdly sick and especially in the mornings. Miserable. Also, I never could relax. All gone. Except for my shortness breath, I feel great.
I know for a fact that Symbicort has side effects that caused it. We say all the time that we’re all different but this change isn’t a coincidence. I just turned 70 - no bruises. None.
Good luck.

I get the purple bruise like areas all over my arms and hands. The slightest bump or scratch and it looks like I’ve been beaten. I’ve learned to accept it and am just glad to see it’s not just me.🤗
