Runny/Dry Nose & 24/7 Oxygen
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

My nose only tries to run from the top right corner but it's a constant. The inside however will be so dry it's painful and bleeding. Have humidifier to attach to concentrator as dr said maybe too dried out but when I hooked it up it almost drowned me and the company hasn't called me back to teach me how to attach even though I followed a video I found to show me since it was mailed to me with no instructions. Any solutions for the runny nose?

Yes Jean, I remember my Mother always had a Kleenex handy, and now it is Me! I really feel the oxygen has something to do with my runny nose. I take an Allegra allergy pill from time to time--seems to help.

My mother, who did not have COPD, always swore that she turned 50 and her nose started to run. I thought she was nuts until I turned 50 and lo and behold! My nose began to run. Once I started using 02 it got worse. Kleenex is always in my pocket with replacements should I need them. Ayr Gel works to keep the nose from getting too dry and causing nosebleeds, but doesn't dry it up. That's the best I can do and I've heard of nothing that really works to dry it up. It's apparently chronic rhinitis, which as far as I can tell simply means runny nose.

As for the humidifier unit, call the DME and ask them to send someone who knows how to hook it up. If you don't get a response, keep calling and if that doesn't work, look them up to see who owns them and call them.

Really unfortunate instructions didn't come with the unit and as far as some videos of any kind will eventually kill someone because of them, you should be able to find a medical answer on this site I'd trust a professional over a youtuber video. Sorry to dump like that but you have an issue that's life threatening as it is a clear medical issue that should be explained by those who prescribe it.
