This medication is still currently used to aid in bronchodilation of the upper respiratory branches. It is also an Anti inflammatory and helps in building stronger breathing muscles in the diaphragm. It has been in use in humans AND pets since the 1920s. The chemical activity is a close cousin to how the medicine Daliresp (Roflumilast) works for frequent exacerbations.
My COPD is not that old but my Lung Doc has been in practice for over 40 years. He has seen a lot of COPD. He ordered this med for me in the hospital to treat a bad Flare-up and it is a Go-to ever since. None of the triple inhalers we use are even considered during treatment in the hospital setting.
The medicine has some drawbacks you can discuss and consider. I recommend the oral solution over pills because it absorbs in the stomach quicker and lasts longer than any nebulizer or steroid treatment.
You may have to fight with your Pharmacist to get it ordered once your doctor writes the prescription though. I have the magic NDC numbers if you need them later. Be well.
Hi @A MyCOPDTeam Member.
NDC = National Drug Code
Every prescription medication and Vaccine formulation has a unique number registered with the FDA.
Everything your insurance Co. approves about your prescription from a doctor is based on this number, not the words they write on the Rx slip.
Theophylline is an old med that was used for COPD years ago, but isn't used much now.
Thank you RollandO, Have a good evening.
@A MyCOPDTeam Member, what is NDC numbers?
