Has Anyone Else Been Diagnosed With End Stage Copd Unexpectedly And Found Out You Don't Have Very Long? If So How Did You Cope?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

This has all been a huge shock especially at such a young age. I just got married last summer. Then found out a month later I have a rare genetic disorder and it's too far advanced to do much about it unless I get double lung and liver transplant and I was told to start planning end of life arrangements. My children and husband are in denial and I'm getting worse day by day. I am trying to keep it together. I am having a very hard time coping. Clearly so are they. What's worse is my husband had… read more

What country do you live in? I’m in Australia it doesn’t seem right that a GP can’t prescribe you an Antidepressant…..My thoughts are with you at this very very difficult time for you.
Take Care I’ve added you.

I think what you were diagnosed with is Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. It is a rare disease that causes lung and liver damage. I suggest that you go to www.Alpha-1.org where you will find a lot of information. I also suggest that you find a pulmonologist who specializes in Alpha-1 treatment. if you can, I'd go to a major Health Center like National Jewish in St. Louis or Denver, the Cleveland Clinic or Mayo. If that's not possible find out where in your state Alpha-1 is treated by pulmonologists who are experienced in this form of the disease. You need to find experts and get a clear picture of your options.

That’s so bad if the Dr knows you or your condition here they’ll prescribe Antidepressants. Must be different rules in America. I wish you luck in finding a Dr or Psychiatrist that will help you. Have you tried going to the ER Department & see if they will help you??? I’ve also done that & been taken care of. Although I do understand that Drs $ Hospitals are very different to here in Australia. I wish you luck. xx…..
Shazza hugggggggs coming your way.

Brooke, I can't even imagine what you must be going through. Is there a social worker or case manager for you to talk with at the hospital who could help with getting some resources to help you? I am sure many other people here will have much better info but I want to say I am so sorry for what you are going through,
and you aren't alone now that you are here. ❤️

Brooke, I don't know what state you're in. But that doesn't matter. You need a primary care specialist to help manage your depression and anxiety. Also you general health. If you do not have a pulmonary Dr. You primary care Dr. should be able to help you with finding one. Do you have family? They can be a great support to you.
My heart goes out for you. I pray you find help.
