Anyone Managed To Get Travel Insurance With Medical Cover?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

Going on a trip of a lifetime, Vancouver and cruise to Alaska! Saved for years but when I try to get travel insurance I have to contact their dept for medical screening and after answering all questions am then told they can't cover me. I have medical card and no private insurance so if I get sick while abroad what happens???

I'm in Ireland, the medical card is provided to us of little income! I have my widows pension so it's even hard to get through the week at times with everything going up, I've thought about cancelling the trip but worked hard for 51 years, time to look after me πŸ˜‰πŸ˜

My daughter (who lives in Australia) just came here to the states last month. She had the same problem, but some of her church friends got together and donated some money for her to get private insurance just to cover her while traveling. I am so sorry you are having this problem!! After saving for so long for this trip and then to go without insurance would be so heartbreaking. I hope things work out for you @A MyCOPDTeam Member!June 9, 2023 4:42 AM

I use Allianz Travel insurance but you must buy within 14 days of any money being paid to have preexisting covered. After that day, it’s only new issues and other regular coverage.

If by "medical card" you mean part A and B of Medicare, I think what would happen in Canada or in Alaska and on board the ship is pretty much what would happen if you were home and had some situation which required medical care. Canada would treat you and bill you for what isn't covered under their universal care package, which I believe includes people from other countries. You're taking no more risk on this trip than you take at home; except for the risks of being on a ship, like falling overboard and you're going to avoid that. πŸ˜‰

Only family left are my 3 wonderful children, I'm blessed with them, they don't drink, smoke, get into any bother, none of them even have partners so I'm waiting a long time for grandchildren 🀣 but they are not on great incomes either. I have the holiday paid for, just have this worry about cover if I'm sick abroad, if I was going to Europe I have an EU card which helps with med costs. Thanks so much for your comments, I too will say a prayer for your team member.πŸ™
