What you're describing sounds more like a panic attack than a flare-up and it may be quite short-lived. A flare-up would probably include coughing, mucus production, sore throat, headache and shortness of breath (sob) and would last for several days to a week. If it's a panic atack, try and get some good behavioral therapy to help you deal with the anxiety that causes panic attacks. If it's a flare, see your doctor.

Lifeextension.com purchase NAC 600 mg for around 12 bucks.
Swanson.com Vitamin C 1000 mg with rose hips 250 caps for about 12 bucks.
These two supplements will actually prevent future and all flare ups, very effective and have no adverse reactions with any medications. Please look at what doctors and pulmonoligists say about it on youtube or google it. Also for not being able to catch your breath another all natural product that does not have any adverse effects is Sambucus the latin name for European Black Elderberry. The brand that is most effective for COPD is Sambucol chewable tablets, (chewable only) you can source these from Amazon for about 10 bucks, they work in 15 min or less to help you breathe better and lower your heart rate. You can watch it work if you have a pulse oximiter, really saved !me many trips to the hospital.
Try these most effective products, if you like the results I have many, many more supplements that after years of trying have found very useful.
Take The NAC 1 to 2 times a day and the vitamin C two times a day, you will eliminate or greatly reduce flare ups or exaserbations.
To your better health,
