I was approved for a non-invasive ventilator (Lincare) and use it daily. I understand that the cost is about 10G! Gosh am I precious. Anyway, I use this daily and I feel that is improves my quality of life tremendously. I do not use it outside of the house because it is simply unreliable time-wise although I suppose I could. I do use it for activities requiring more effort and thus more oxygen. It has a 50' cord which is a plus. Use time depending on setting (low, med, high) can be as much as 4 hours on low and less on higher settings. Takes about an hour to charge. Has changed my life.

I have not used this machine, but would value it highly if I had a need for warm and humidified air. It sounds great for people who need such machines. I would assume that you would need to have a prescription for that specific machine and your DME would be required to get one for you. I'm also sure there would be a charge!

Hello folks,
I heard about the Beast (as I lovingly call it) from the head RT at Pulmonary Rehab. Mentioned it to my pulmonary doc who immediately commented that it would help me. I could ask him why he hadn't said anythin but why ask why! Anyway, Medicare covers it which is terrific because it is frightfully expensive. What it does is very much like a ventilator. It actually pushes air into your lungs, expanding them. As I said earlier, it is dependent on a battery but generally speaking it is good for three to four hours. I truly wish I could rely on it to use outside but I become far too anxious. You must be referred by your pulmonologist and I'm bewildered as to why more don't do this. As I said, my respiratory therapist at rehab recommended it to me. I hope you have good luck with this and are able to receive one. Please let me know!

The VA actually purchased it, $5,000.00 for my use to loosen and help extract phlegm. Only used it a couple day's a few hours each day and no results thus far.

@A MyCOPDTeam Member how would a person know it it might help them? You are of course about exercise being the main thing that will help me but I really need to know what are other options that might help.
Thanks.
