If you bend over to do anything, diaphragmatic breathing doesn't work real well, but if you put your leg up on the side of the bed and put your socks on, you don't begin to have the same problem. Try it. As for breathing methods, both pursed lip breathing and diaphragmatic breathing are recommended. You can also do any sort of breath control exercises, from singing or playing a harmonica or any wind instrument to yoga or tai chi.
