kb208, COPD is generally staged mild, moderate, severe and very severe or 1, 2, 3, or 4. The Gold staging protocol does allow for some negotiation, if you will, and I think that may be what your doc is using.

I was told COPD is staged along the lines of lung cancer and mine was 3b. I don’t know if there were 3 strains. I’ll see if I can find some answers. Cultures were done all 3 times. Now that I know what questions to ask. Thank you!

Define 3B COPD, please. Do you mean that you fall into the 3B category according to the GOLD staging method or something else? Three rounds of septic pneumonia doesn't sound good at all. Was it three different strains of pneumonia or one you just couldn't get rid of? Did they do spumum cultures to test for which strain?

I am in lung cancer remission. Had one lobe resection and a wedge. Chemo after. Now I keep getting pneumonia and spending weeks in the hospital. I, too, have CKD. Good luck to you! They are discovering new cancer therapies everyday. Perhaps a clinical trial? Ask your oncologist. My best to you!
