How Long Does Your Inogen G5 Battery Last?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'll keep this simple and ask anyone has the g5 how long their battery last on the setting you use? I get about 4 hours from the 16-cell battery on setting 4 and even though I haven't used it very much, my battery is 2 years old. There is a huge difference how long I get from setting #3 and #4, and I'm wondering if my battery needs to be replaced and might give me more time.

Thanks

Here’s another (somewhat long) article on best battery charging practices to save lifespan, @A MyCOPDTeam Member

https://mainclinicsupply.com/blogs/news/how-lon...

Since it doesn’t automatically stop charging when it hits 100% charged, are you leaving your spare batteries on the recharge once they are done?

Given the issues you’ve had with your portable unit, is it worth talking to the company who sold you the unit and batteries to see if they are defective? It might be a long-shot if you’ve been recharging multiple times a day (for being at 121 days of charge life per my prior comment), but it’s always worth a try if it can save you some bucks.

Good luck ! These batteries certainly aren’t cheap, I’m sorry to say.

I have a G5 and have had it fot nearly 2 years. It has a single (8 cell) battery. I get about 4 hours when I'm out and about on 2 liters. The info sandsrainbow gave you is fairly correct. It just depends on the age of the battery (ies).

Hi, @A MyCOPDTeam Member - absolutely not talking myself out of using supplemental oxygen, but I am not willing to buy or use a piece of junk.

@A MyCOPDTeam Member suggested the Inogen Home system for the stationary unit.

I need something with continuous flow for my portable unit, and so far the only available unit is the Philips Respironics Simply Go, which is bulky (18 pounds) and doesn’t fit in a backpack.

I also need a portable unit that will work on flights as I like to travel. While I used the Simply Go in 2022, the oxygen supply company would not assign it to me permanently (and didn’t have to, since they provided the stationary unit).

After fighting with the oxygen supplier about Medicare rules (which are different for disabled folks under their normal retirement age), I returned the 31# piece of noisy junk, the Philips Respironics Easy Flow, and am in the process of forcing medicare to allow me to rent a portable continuous flow machine.

Not sure where you got the idea I was anti-oxygen. What I am is anti-noise, anti-weight, and anti-junk.

Please, if you or anyone have a continuous flow portable oxygen unit that’s of a newer make, don’t hesitate to tag me.

JoanneC I have been on oxygen 24/7 since April 2015. when I first got Inogen One 4/ 4cell batteries came with it, only 1 of those batteries has gone bad to date and does not hold a charge. in May 2022, I purchased an 8cell battery and now it is the only one I use,I get 3 to 4 hours on a full charge at 5liters I have not had any problems with it, In July 2016, I traveled by car to upstate New York using my portable and car charger. we did take the home one for over night, then used the portable during the day. I stayed with a granddaughter for 2 weeks then we traveled to Niagiria Falls, Canada, Washington D.C. etc. In 2018 I then traveled by car to Texas for 2 weeks, I still drive myself to do my own shopping etc. using my portable. I am 88 years old, I guess you can talk yourself out of using oxygen, or you can just go for it if you do not want to be confined to one spot for the rest of your life. without my Inogen One, My oxygen drops into the 70% range. not good.
Have a wonderful day!!
