A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

THIS happens at night alot...i will get up to use bathroom (im only going a few feet)when i go to lay down i start gasping for air even while my o2 is good. I have to use my rescue inhaler.Sometimes i get up several times and only pass a small amount of urine. This is very troublesome any ideas?

PSUE,I found out what was happening to me...my oxygen is set on 2 on my machine...they had me taking it up when i was up and around..it did not get turned back to the2 setting i was getting co2 poisoning .THIS HAD HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE I felt like i wasnt getting any air and just turned to 2 and half. The next thing i was at hospital gasping and not able to breath my co2 was 4 times what it should have been..since my lungs are so damaged they cant get rid of the co2 right.Carbon Monoxide poisoning (co2)will also make you very tired you will also show a good oxygen reading most the time better that you normally run I HOPE MY EXPERIENCE helps others

@A MyCOPDTeam Member Hi Linda, has your Dr checked to see if you suffer from sleep apnea, i had the same problem going to the loo so many times i never got any sleep. This problem stopped immediately when i used a c pap machine at night, it was a huge relief.

My experience speak to your Dr about this. You may need an additional inhaler. Like Advir or sprivia. I have my rescue inhaler & in addition to that I use advir am & pm plus sprivia in the am. I dont know but do talk to him about that. My insurance had refused the sprivia for a few months & made me go onto another typ & I had troublg with my urine stream & weight gain so pay attention to signs like that with any new med. Good luck!

@A MyCOPDTeam Member I used to have that trouble until I got a nebulizer to use at home. Now I use my second dose of Advair, then I put a dose of DuoNeb in my Nebulizer and while I breath it in... I do the pulmonary deep breathing push exercises to clear first the small airways with light breathing then I work up 3 breaths at a time until I am pushing air out as strongly as I can..which seems to do a fantastic job of clearing my airways. I start with breaths that can barely move a tissue if I had one in front of my mouth and do sets of 3 breaths as I gradually push more air out of my lungs each time, With the nebulizer's help it seems to really clear the smaller to larger airways and I can lay down and sleep without choking and or coughing all night. I discovered it wasn't an Oxygen issue it was an exhale issue from my Emphysema, so if I started with the clearest airways I could get I was only waking up 1-2 times a night not all the time.
