New Medicines Added, Wanting Information
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have a new doctor, she has put me on two new drugs, Montelukast Soo, and Asmanex Twisthaler, I want to know is these are ok for me to use with my spriva and my albuterol sulfate, I have felt very tired after using these, I don't know my new doctor at all, and I want to be sure she knows me and my Copd, is any one else on these.

Montelukast is the primary ingredient in Singulair, which is a medication often given for allergies. Asmanex is a corticosteroid often prescribed to help people with asthma or COPD control the inflammation in their lungs. Did you ask why she added these to your regimen? If not, you really need to go back and ask. What are they supposed to do for you? And did she discontinue either the Spiriva or the albuterol? Did you ask? Both are very commonly used for people with COPD, but you need to know exactly why she thinks they will do you some good, especially if you were doing fine with the Spiriva and albuterol. You need to ask a bunch of questions!

The pharmacist told me to take singular at night. In the am I take nebulized xopenex to open the airways (a drug like albuterol) then I take Spiriva and lastly the Asmanax. Then go rinse out your mouth. I also use Budesonide and Brovana everyday nebulized before the Spiriva.

Yes, it's okay to use your new drugs with your current drugs. A lot of people are on all of those

Thanks so much for the answer, Jean, she said these two would help me breathe better. and I did not ask her about the meds, she didn't say anything concerning the Sprivia or albuterol, so I called back , couldn't get her, but another doctor told someone to call me and tell me I could use these two right along with my others, to tell you the truth I use the Sprivia once a day, in the morning then, I wait half and hour and use the other, the inhaler, then, half hour later I take the singulair, I don't think myself personally I want to take them all together.
