Find a good health professional in your community who specializes in smoking cessation. A good one will treat your problem as an addiction and work with you to figure out your triggers and which aids will help most in which situations.

As for exercise, talk with your doc first. Be sure there's no reason why you shouldn't exercise. Then just walk. Start very slow and see how long (time) you can go without stopping. You're shooting for 30 minutes. Most of us can't do that initially, so we go really slow and go as long as we can. Do that again until you've done 30 minutes. Do the same thing for the next couple of days. Then slowly, add a minute or two before stopping. You'll get to 30 minutes before you know it. Then you can add time, speed or distance. Keep pushing yourself to increase something all the time. You'll get to a point where you can't, but that's fine, too.

You also need to do strengthening exercises. You can join a gym or work with weights or bands or even cans of vegetables at home. You need to work on upper, lower and core muscle groups.

I found you can't smoke em if you don't buy em. Every time I was inclined to buy a pack I would say "This to will pass and after about 3 minutes it did. I have been off now for 9 months after smoking 60yrs. Yes it's tough but 3hrs of not smoking is worth celebrating. If you go 12 hrs call a friend or relative and brag.

I’m still smoking and having a hard time quitting. Mentally and physically it’s pretty tough! I was told once that you have to make a commitment to stop and to also think of yourself as a non smoker and not an ex smoker. I’m still struggling.
