Some of you know that I am on the American Thoracic Society’s Public Advisory Roundtable Council, representing EFFORTS and COPD. The webinar is not until next Wednesday. You can register using the link I posted. In my opinion, stem cell treatment for COPD is so much snake oil. There's no scientific or clinical evidence that the therapy as given now actually makes any difference in any measure that means something, such as : changes in spirometry or PFT results, increases in 6 minute walk results, fewer exacerbations or any other changes that really show improvement.
I agree with him! Unfortunately, most of it is offered in clinics and doesn't even purport to be a clinical trial. In my opinion, you should never pay for anything in a legitimate clinic trial; in fact in a legitimate trial, lots of times they pay you, or at least reimburse you for mileage and expenses if not actually pay you cash money. In addition, all of the stem cell research that's registered at clinicaltrials.gov are to determine whether the procedure is safe in humans; that's all.
@A MyCOPDTeam Member, My pulmonologist said exactly what you said about Stem Cell Research for COPD. He also said to never pay to be in any such study. He actually called it a "scam".
Sounds great, wish it were sooner.
