The RENEW study is the most recent in a whole series of non-invasive treatments with vents, valves, steam, glue and now coils that are designed to have the effect of Lung Volume Reduction Surgery without getting actually cut. In each case, the treatment is done via the bronchial tubes. In this case, specially designed coils are placed at strategic spots in the lungs where it is hoped that they will close off the diseased parts of the lung and close of areas where air can be trapped. This allows the healthy parts of the lungs to work better.

That's actually a good thing, Ray. If you look at the studies that have been done on Lung Volume Reduction Surgery, one of the things they found was that people who didn't meet their very firm and narrow criteria and still had the surgery done (back when it was still experimental) at best, had no change in their condition and many died. They've been doing various vents, valves, etc for about the last 12 years and each study has confirmed that the people who do best using those devices are the ones who meet the criteria for LVRS. So many of the people who had those things placed had no change in their condition and some died.

I, too, tried for several of the trials and didn't qualify for any of them. While I didn't know whether to be glad that I was too healthy or annoyed that the disease wasn't diffuse enough to qualify, I was glad to know that they were definitely looking out for my best interests. I certainly wasn't interesting in having a bad outcome that would make me worse!

I tried to get in on that one didn't make it. Also tried Liberate could not get in there either, then I just tried the Eosinophils injections. It seems like your to good or to bad, they have a very long list if anything is out of place your out.
