Ways To Relieve Anxiety
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am looking for ways to help relieve anxiety without taking medications. Not sure what is going on here lately, but feel very anxious and tired. Also getting tension headaches and not under a lot of stress at the moment.

I am in a strange position; having COPD level 3 I do not have any of symptoms i read about here. But I am psychologist and will try to answer your question as good I can. Stress is difficult to fight even for healthy people. I know nothing about your living conditions, family, friends. Usually they are of a help but sometimes in contrary... Music helps, really. Try to listen to music you like or liked, try to attach to something from your past that was good. When you can feel coming attac of fear or stress simply immediately get back to that. Built your own matters, places, thoughts you feel well with. Try to built your inner safe space. Be there as often as you may, move things from place to place in your imagination... be good for yourself, you deserve that. There is nothing wrong with kissing your inner girl...being good for her... All the best!

Anxiety is part of this disease. How could it not be? If you can't breathe you die. If you need help to breathe and soddenly don't have that help, what do you do? You get scared, anxious, etc. Not trying to make it worse, just a lead in to why you get anxious so you are more prepared with how to deal with it. I've found it very helpful to include God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit to help me when I get anxious. I say a quick prayer to God, "God, I'm scared. Hold me, protect me, give me peace, in Jesus name. Amen" Then I call on Jesus, "Jesus, I need you." I feel His presence instantly by my side, holding my hand, helping me get thru this anxiety attack. Then I call on the Holy Spirit to quiet my thoughts and bring me to a place in my mind that is peaceful and quiet. It works for me.

I agree 100% with what Roofer said !! Breathing excercises is the key to winning. Be sure to use those stomach muscles to push out all that old and bad air. If you hand a pair of dumbell 5 pound wieghts, and while doing the breathing excercises, lightly work all the parts of your arms and shoulders. But be sure to maintain good breathing at the same time. Never over do it, but do it. This helps not only your body, and your lungs, but helps our emotions too. And keep telling yourself, " i will never give up, i will have victory over this copd. Ask God to be there with you, to watch over you, for strength body and mind. Together, it's a win, win, out come. God Bless you now, in this journey of life. Keep telling yourself, " i can do all things, through Christ, that strengthens me".

Nerves, I do the same thing sometimes. If at all possible, get up and do something, anything to take your mind off it. It's a mind game, you have a little difficulty breathing and it sets you to thinking your heart gets a little faster and then your mind takes over. I just get up and straighten things, maybe pat some pillows, even so far as go to the kitchen and try new recipes. Thank you it sure helps. It helps with restless legs too. Just got to keep busy and not think about it . I hope this helps. Later my friend.
