Doc Says Blowing Out 53% From Lungs. What Does This Mean As He Doesn't Give Stages.

My Pulmo says there are some areas looking better, but only blowing out 53% air out. I just would like to know if anyone knows what this means.

That's moderate if you go by stage. Actually what it amounts to is you have over half the lung function of someone your height, weight, age, sex and ethnicity. What it really means is that if you stop smoking, exercise for 30 minutes daily, take your meds, get your weight close to normal and get to your doc ASAP if do get something respiratory, you can probably go through life with very few problems. Learn about COPD. Go to www.copdfoundation.org and use their educational materials.

I think he would prefer if you could exhale more out with each breath. 53% is a good lung capacity, but would improve if you could empty more breath , leaving more room to inhale more.

It means that your lung funktion is 53% and I must say that is not bad as mine is 23%. Have a breath easy day and weekend

Thanks Merle I'm on oxygen at night but have noticed getting more and more breathless when I'm active but have to keep moving otherwise you may as well give up and life is good and lots to carry on for. So keep smiling 😊 and breathe easy. Thanks again.
