You're not talking about vocal chord dysfunction; you're talking about a reaction to scents that sets off your cough response and can lead to an exacerbation. That's completely different from vocal chord dysfunction, even though it certainly affects your ability to talk during a coughing jag. There's nothing wrong with your vocal chords at all. It's your reaction to scents and chemicals.
@Stayceys. Hi Stacey, Do you mean like a raspy hoarse voice. I have Chronic Obstructive Airway Disease. If I breathe in traffic fumes or cigarette from some smoking my voice goes hoarse immediately. It can be the start of an exacerbation. for me.
It's nice to know that I'm not alone also! My voice has changed, it's deeper and raspy. I've found that drinking a hot beverage helps with the throat irritation.
Perfumes, colonges, and all scents bother me.
