Since I quit smoking I have had no flare ups but I am very short winded and can't do normal activities. I lose my breath instantly. Will this go away in time since i quit smoking

You can get "better" COPD is degenerative, but you can increase the function of remaining lung. In 2016 I was diagnosed stage 4, fev1 was 27.5 I quit smoking , treadmill and work out almost everyday. Was tested last week and Fev1 was 40! Ia now technically stage 3. All relative. Still winded, use o2 at night when I sleep. keep chugging along.

I have a question does any one experience a dry mouth n also the roof of your mouth upon waking in the morning and upon going to bed at night? It's so bad I can't even swallow have to Clear my throat from the mucus so I can swallow again. Keeps me up all night. Tried everything sleeping on extra pillows, tried sleeping with my mouth shut for I am a mouth breather, which doesn't help. Any suggestions are appreciated.ready to just give up and die because I can't live like this and I give the ones that can alot of credit .Thank you

When I first quit smoking it was like I'd never smoked at all; I was doing things I'd done before like climbing the hills around the old homestead, I built myself a shed and did a lot of renovations around the house. I was out there walking for miles and exploring everything I could possibly want to and got into a few hobbies I'd been working on. I got lazy though and stopped the exercise thinking I was getting enough but I got the flu and it really hit me hard and I was never able to recover completely, I get along okay though but not like I want to. I hope there is some good advice in these lines for anyone that takes the time to read them.

Supposedly we will never go backwards. However, I do believe in miracles the Lord only gives; it has happened to me often enough to stand behind it. Your second comment is so true. Psychology is my area of education, and I can tell you without a doubt when a person is anxious, it most often causes more of what you are trying to dump like smoking. That just makes it worse. I have quit about 3 to 4 yrs back. I am not sure if it has made a difference other than I could have gotten worse had I not quit. I still miss my cigs. I don't believe the cigs cause COPD but it sure doesn't help it. One trip to the casino for me where they smoke, and I suffer now. Everyone has their turning point for quitting. Hopefully, you will find yours. Try to avoid anxious situations. Try restructuring your daily routine; it may help.
