High Pollen And Copd
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

the nice warm spring days are here now. The pollen is rising. How do you cope with it and would welcome any tips. Me myself I stay indoors as I start coughing, can`t breath and the incontinence kicks in lol. Although I do joke about it , it can Become embarrassing.

I use a saline nasal spray several times a day and usually first thing in the morning. Then after about 10 minutes later I use nasacort allergy 24 hr spray. I also try to keep doors and windows closed and have an air purifier I use when I go to bed at night. Since I also have animals the ent advised me to not allow any of them in the bedroom. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much. It was lovely reading your rant and knowing someone else has the same problems as myself. I make humour out of my situation and explain to people what is involved and why my middle name is Puddles. People do not feel so bad around me now when I have a breathless/ coughing fit. So thank you and rant on. Have a pollen free breath easy day x

Have you ever tried Zyrtec for allergies and Flonase for your nose? Now the Flonase has to be taken regularly or it won't work. Hope this helps. If you don't get out and get enough sun that is not good for you either so I hope you take vitamin D

I try to write a note to my Drs. when I have an appointment and cover things that I have found that works. I do this in order that the Dr. can share what I have experienced with others going through the same or similar situations. I worked and retired from KC a company that was a fore runner in the area of famine hygiene, the sanitary pad was developed as a bandage during WWI the Army nurses found that it worked great for something else and after the war approached the company about marketing it as such, the rest is history. I told my Dr. that if I had not been in meetings and heard the results from these products I would have been devastated the first time I had this happen, but I learned that it is part of the disease and I am thankful that there are products on the market that help me address this. I have learned to make this part of my routine for getting dressed if I am going out I select heavier protection than I might at home in part due to the expense. Nothing can be more embarrassing than to be in a store or Dr. office and find that I can not make it to the bathroom on time. When I have to take antibiotics I also have trouble with diarrhea and that adds another segment that has to be taken into account, I read somewhere that when a person had this happen they never left the house after that and that is so sad. Part of this disease is that when we can't breath the body shuts down all parts except the part that is essential to keep life going. I have been dealing with COPD for a long time now and back about ten years ago I was given a rescue inhaler and when I needed it nothing would come out, I complained and got another brand. Later I was told that when this happened it had a clog in it and I just needed to rinse the container out and it would work. Well guess what if I am hanging on the side of a buggy in a store trying to breath what part of I can't make it to the bathroom to wash a clog out of the rescue inhaler do the manufacturing's not understand. If I pay for a rescue inhaler I have a right to expect it to work when I need it. I did not plan to write so much but we all experience so much of the same things that we need to understand that none of this is unique to us as an individual but is part of the whole and can happen to anyone. Breath easy and stay safe
