Medicare has paid for my oxygen concentrator at home as well as my portable concentrator that I carry with me when I am out. At this point I have had both long enough that only Medicare pays and I don’t have to. I love my little portable so much nicer than the tanks that were only good for two hours, The concentrator is good for four hoursOn battery but with the car charger I can be gone for a lot longer

@A MyCOPDTeam Member, In order for this to be covered by Medicare, you must have a prescription from your Pulmonologist and he/she must stipulate that "portable" is a necessity. If not approved, they have to keep prescribing it over and over. They have to make a case for your necessity. If they say you use it only at night, Medicare will not approve portable! They have to show you use it all day to get

Medicare will pay 80 % you have to pay the 20% unless you have supplemental insurance You will need prescription from your doctor stating that oxygen level falls below 88% which I be is the current nadicare thresholds. In addition shop around for Oxygen suppliers do your homework some are better than others. Ask what their policy is for both home and portable units . Make sure flow rate on equipment can sustain the liter flow that you require. There are a wide variety of units so take your time and find one that is most manageable for you Let me know if you need any more help and we'll ger this resolved for you Happy hunting DAH

@A MyCOPDTeam Member, (sorry, didn't mean to post yet) con't. to get around. Also if you don't have a Medicare Manual , call them and they will send you one though you should have received one automatically when you went on Medicare and every year thereafter. You can then look up what's covered and what is not. Good Luck!
