Stop Smoking And Avoid Lung Irritants
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have tried so many times so many times to quit smoking with no luck. I seem to be very good for the 1st 3 weeks and then boom I smoke again, Does anyone have any ideas how I can beat this horrible habit once and for all!

Set goals, I used to smoke about 2 packs a day. I have cut down to one or two a day if I go out of the house. Some days I don't go out. It doesn't seem to bother me. Set realistic goals and don't beat yourself up if you backslide.

I had tried it all to stop smoking. Patches, gum, vape, champix to no avail ! I ended up in hospital on life support.

2weeks in hospital, started again smoking. I thought to myself " Cigarettes are stronger than me". Somehow I

have to stop. Mind you I was smoking about 4 cigarettes a day, still not at all would have been better. To make

a long story short, I made up my mind in the hospital Quit Smoking. Being there for a week helped,I have not

touched a cigarette since, going on 6 months. Before I stopped smoking in and out of hospital not being able

to breathe. In some ways I feel better, breathing is not the greatest though. Just look at it this way I could be in

the ground. Sometimes I get cravings so I chew spearment gum.

You can do it, I know you can!!

I did it cold turkey after 42 years but I found out I had copd and that gave me the motivation to do it. My husband used the patch. Other people have used the vape . You have to really want to quit or it is an impossible feat.

I quit smoking at the age of 50. I had smoked since I was a teenager. I was up to more than 2 packs a day. I was diagnosed with COPD in the 80's and continued to smoke until 1999. I used a medicine called zyban It worked for me. I have been smoke free since July 1999. I am not saying it was easy. It was the most difficult thing I have ever done but my desire to live was stronger

Maybe that works, not for everyone. People can advise you and give you meds. In the end it is up to the individual. It took me numerous trys before I could quit.
