I need to complete the 6 minute walk to see if I qualify for o2
Your O2 is good; it's probably your heart rate that has them concerned. I would ask why they stopped you and then talk with your doc. Unless you're over 85, you weren't very near a heart rate that could be dangerous, unless you have heart problems. It could also be that they stop anyone your age when the heart rate hits 130. Point is, you need to find out why they stopped you and then talk with your doc to see whether it's something you really need to be worried about. If they were doing the test to see if you need O2, you weren't far enough into the test to even know.
If you've been really sedentary because it was hard to move being short of breath, and now you're asking your heart to do a lot more than it's been asked to do before, a higher than normal heart rate should be expected. You need to talk with your doc to see what you can and should do. My suggestion is to talk about a Pulmonary Rehab program if you don't have heart issues and get started on a good exercise program.
Hi the last time I took, the Sox minute walk I did better than three months ago also the breathing test , my lung Dr want know what was different. I told him I’m following his directions , but I also for last two month at rehab playing the harmonica. I think it’d nlowingnin out. The notes help. Don’t knock it try it. Even if you can play tune. Just doing the scale was tough . The group all laught . Good luck
They are worried when I do that but it's my heart that worries then because it really starts beating really fast and I go blue round the mouth and they'd make me stop and sit down
@A MyCOPDTeam Member, thank you for your answer. I will probably NOT take you up on this even though it sounds like a wonderful exercise. I have a puppy (13 years old) that hates most noises....including whistles.
@A MyCOPDTeam Member when I took my stress test as soon as my O2 levels dropped to 88% they put me on supplemental oxygen and I continued with my 6 minute walk. The criteria I was under was that if the O2 dropped below 90% that made me eligible for supplemental oxygen.
