What Do You Do To Prevent Getting A Cold Or Flu?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I hadn't even thought of this until hub had the news on and said how many people have died in Iowa from the flu. I haven't been to a specialist yet (the 29th) and I about freaked out in the grocery store when an acquaintance said hi and how sick she was and of course there she was sharing her germs. What do you guys do? Do you not go out? Do online grocery shopping? My friends wanted to go to a movie Thursday, but I'm too freaked out. Help, any suggestions?

Sidenote: I had an appt with my pulmonologist and Infectuous Disease specialist this week. Both advocate not only washing my hands and arms, but also changing clothes after being in the store. They confirm there is a lot of flu and colds going around, and those of us who are compromised are more susceptible to picking up a bug. I guess better safe than sorry. But having dealt with pneumonia and sepsis, I think it’s probably good advice.

It depends on how vulnerable you think you are. If you're one of those people who comes down with everything as soon as it's mentioned, then maybe you want to stay home.

I don't catch much, so I go out and do things. If someone around me is coughing and sneezing, I try to get out of the way, and wash my hands, don't touch my face, carry antibacterial stuff in my purse; do all the things we're supposed to do anyway. Wearing a mask is another possibility; I don't, but many people do. Be sure you have your flu shot and don't go out if you're not feeling your best. Get to your doc ASAP as soon as you get something respiratory.
