COPD is an umbrella term that includes chronic bronchitis, emphysema, bronchiectasis and sometimes asthma. Most of us have elements of at least chronic bronchitis and emphysema and many of us also have bronchiectasis as well. All three diseases contribute to our general diagnosis and problems; that's why they use the umbrella term.
