As many as possible. There are many people with COPD who regularly do 10,000 steps just like the rest of the world does. Others find it a great feat to complete 1000 steps. A lot depends on your level of fitness, energy level, sob, whether or not you use the O2 that's been prescribed for you, if you're sick or not.......all those things can make a difference.
I think the question really should be, how many steps should YOU take every day. My suggestion is to get a fitbit or some way of keeping track and see how many steps you average over a week, say. Then think about what you'd like to be able to do to improve that level, and figure out how you might achieve that slowly. Then work your way up to whatever goal you've set.
As many as you can without hurting yourself
You nailed it Jean the main trick to gettin better is gradual increases in activity.I have a Samsung phone that has a free health app that tracks my walking distances with great accuracy ( i checked it with the car odometor)
Walking is a great exercise. We have been swimming three times a week and today I went to the gym and used the equipment they taught me at the hospital for COPD.
Walking is the best exercise regardless is you are on oxygen or not... Walk as often as you can...👣
