Exercise
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I have had COPD for over 20 years and been told to do more exercise, this I try to do do but get out of breath quite easily. When I stop to get my breath back people often stop and ask if I am ok concerned about the way I look this can be very embarassing for me. Is there any simple exercises that I can do at home in order to get fitter so that I can go out for walks with out being embarssed I can be out of breath after 200 yard or metres.

On the internet look up Yoga for lungs or better breathing--they are easy and they open your airways--the stretching helps. I took Yoga from Priscilla Patrick ( she is on the Internet and u-tube )--I took from her when I was 26 until I was 32---I only stopped the class because I moved but I got her DVD and now with the internet it is easy--have a look and try a few--not hard--and you can pick the ones you feel comfortable doing--good luck Henny

Hello BrianG, there are many exercises you can do besides trying to walk, buy a bike peddler you can do this sitting down, use small weights while watching TV,, do some slow push ups and leg exercises off kitchen counter, a stretchy band will strengthen your arms.
I find it hard to walk too, but the more I do the more I can do.
I’m now going to cardiac rehab, when I first started I could only exercise for 10 minutes, after. 20 weeks I am now up to 45 minutes
I went to pulmonary rehab too, it helps tremendously.
Good luck and God Bless.

Hello, exercise is very important, if you get so out of breathe, why not try exercising sitting down, I have a bike peddler, small weights, do exercise off my counter, plus I go to cardiac rehab 3 times a week. Maybe check into getting a cart with wheels, Medicare will pay for this, it is something you can hang onto while walking. I recommend doing everything in slow motion.
Good luck
