How Accurate Are CT Scan Results When Testing For Lung Cancer?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

After being diagnosed with COPD 2 years ago, I went to the emergency room last week and the dr. said that the xrays showed what he thought was lung cancer. A CT scan was done and the results he said didn’t show cancer, but definitely something concerned him enough that he said I needed to see a critical care lung dr. immediately. He said it wasn’t pneumonia but some type of bacteria showed up.

When getting my diagnosis for lung cancer, I went from xray to blood work to bronchoscope/biopsy and ct scan with contrast dye.
This was over a 3 day span and my results of scan 3rd day was very certain. Glad we caught it early as my "symptoms" were lethargy, and feeling like I was coming down with something.... Lung Cancer can be quite sneaky, in this way so if you see your Pulmonary Dr on a regular basis, and communicate well, be grateful! Ironically, my cancer might have been missed had it not been for my having COPD and a Dr to go with it....

Cancer free over 3yrs now!
Whew......

Agreed!! Don't stand for the (pat on the head, there, there,) slough off type. Research and show them you have enough knowledge for them to tell it to you so you can be more comfortable with what they say you need. No one advocates for yourself more than you do (unless you are lucky enough to have a take-charge person like my wonderful daughter). So do your homework, journal your days, have a list of questions if you need them, and accept no crap. It took me a long time (I am 78), but working with my daughter on my health care I have started taking up for myself.
