Wondering If There A Connection Between Indigestion And Other Stomach Issues And COPD?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

Have had stomach issues since my teens. December will mark 10 years of battling COPD. Have been through extensive tests concerning the stomach and thorough testing on my heart. I have indigestion a lot, sometimes all day long, sometimes with nausea, sometimes with pain on my chest, in my back between my shoulder blades. During these days, I am sleepy, fatigued, sometimes with a head ache. Other days it is completely not there!

There is a major connection between GERD and COPD. They irritate each other and make each other worse. Get evaluated for GERD and if you can find something that will help you relieve the GERD, your COPD won't be as difficult to manage. If you have a chronic cough, it will definitely help. Taking tums is fine, but that really just relieves the symptoms temporarily. I would suggest that you look for something that does a better job than tums, and in your specific case, I'd suggest a prescription med to begin. Many COPD patients have silent GERD, so push to get evaluated if you have to. Your pulmonologist can help if your PCP is reluctant.

Stomach issues, for me it was food allergies. i would wake up in the morning feeling good then an hour after breakfast I started getting tired, bloated and just not feel good. after every meal seemed to be the same thing. I got an Alcat test done to find a long list of foods to stay away from. All good now unless they put me on antibiotics. Back to probiotics to get straightened out. Hope this helps.
