Have Hypoxia And On O2
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone with hypoxia and on o2 ever gotten better and got off of o2?

Yes
I was on oxygen for almost two years
And still was having trouble breathing

I found out when I went to respiratory therapy
That I was a retainer of c02
So until I could release the c02 and get up mucus nothing would work
Think of your lungs as sponges
When they are full
Nothing else goes in
Meds don't work right
Because they are not getting to the diseased
Part of the lungs
Remember as a kid blowing bubbles in milk
It helps release the c02
Get a hard plastic bottle with a lid
And a straw
Fill the bottle half way with room temperature
Filtered water
Inhale through your nose
Exhale into the straw slowly
Using your diaphragm or belly
Making bubbles in the water
Do it before you take any meds
Start with 5 minutes
10 times a day
First thing in the morning when I get up
And the last thing I do before bed
Before I take any of my meds
And when I start to feel short of breathe
Keep the straw in the bottle
Keep the lid on it
Carry it wherever I go
It taught me
Pursed lipped breathing
So the more I use it the better I will feel
Helps with anxiety and panic
And controls breathing
So I'm not hyper ventilating
I know it works for me
Good luck
In my prayers
Slow and steady we go

Jeffery Malone seems on track, I monitor blood flow when on tread mill, and if it drops to 90, I either slow down or stop and take a breather.. And I use oxygen when taking a shower, the humidity cleans out my sinuses, but the effort of bathing makes me short of breath. I was on Oxygen 24/7 a few years back, now only take it at night, and while showering.. if breathing gets labored, I take a short rest and go on.. I have an Airlife contraption that you breath out as much air as you can and when you breathe in it has a scale that goes to 4000 it sure exercises the lungs. I got mine from the hospital years ago, and use it quite often (not as much as I should), and it seems to help.. I still have the tanks that are portable to carry around, haven't used them for years. If you don't have a monitor for blood flow, get one you may not need o2 as much as you think you do... Breathe easy and avoid stress...
I would advise everyone with our problem to get that blood flow monitor...

Hypoxia is caused by low O2 saturation levels; supplementary O2 helps alleviate that. I was on O2 24/7 back in 2003 when I went on a very aggressive diet and exercise program ( FEV1 was at 16%, down form the mid-30s when I had been first diagnosed). I used a 1200 - 1500 calorie diabetic diet and an exercise program where my goal was to burn 750 calories a day. Over 18 months I lost over 100 pounds and among other things, got off the O2 for almost 10 years. While the exercise played a big part, it was really the weight loss I think that helped get me off the O2. Short of being able to lose that kind of weight, I doubt that you could make that kind of a result. Exercise will certainly help, but I doubt that you would get off the O2 completely. You certainly could reduce the amount of O2 you use and you might not have to use it all the time. Others have done similar things.

Much like @A MyCOPDTeam Member I managed to lose over 20 pounds with diet and exercise , i must use oxygen to walk or do anything physical at Denver's 5,280 foot altitude , if i drop to 1,500 foot or lower altitude i only need oxygen for walking over 1/4 mile , i always have an oximeter in my pocket and use it often to determine if i need oxygen , it did take me a while to figure out those meters often give false readings during the first 30 seconds or so of using . I believe the weight loss helped me quite a bit as my numbers saw such a substantial improvement the doctors are telling me to change nothing .
