Hi there.. I was diagnosed with COPD 4 years ago.. Now on the initial diagnosis night at the hospital I was given 2 inhalers and sent on my way with a third a few days later.. And that was it.. I had my normal eating daily, or basically what I wanted, I was always aware of a bloated stomach after eating, drinking for years before and up until 2 months ago.. Its only a few months ago I happened upon a medical article for copd sufferers like us that we should be on a specific diet for copd... I learnt that my bloat before copd didn't really bother me but during copd the pressure of bloat would push up into my lungs hence really really affecting my ability to breath properly... I too was doing my inhaler 3 to 4 times more than what I should, now that has detrimental affect and again it can make you feel breathless...ive only recently become aware of 'Diafragmatic breathing techniques for copd sufferers .Eileen go online and look, "diets for people with COPD.." things like high pottasium, green tea with manuka honey... I make a smoothie every other day with a mixture of fresh, ginger, spinach, quinoa seeds, coconut water, honey, ice cubes.. I have a small tin of oily fish in olive oil daily.. Eileen as soon I became aware of the foods and alcohol that where bloating me, I stopped them all... My life has changed... I now have no more bloat and do my inhalers only twice a day not 7 times... I can actually take a deep breath and have a conversation without feeling faint... Write down what you eat in a normal week(everything) and ask Google out of what u eat can cause bloat.... Then 🛑 stop right away... The article also stated that our condition has our bodies use upto 10times more calories a day than a normal person, that's a massive amount needed, it's like 6 full English breakfasts a day(not possible) but a clever intake of plant proteins, seeds, pulses etc in a simple smoothies, veg, chicken, fish, high pottasium, vitamins K are also really important..there is all the info on the Internet for all of this and Eileen if its working for me it most certainly will work for you.. I hope u not smoking still... The products needed for this diet are easy to find, and relatively inexpensive.. I hope u find this info helpful.. Your life and well-being will change if you do this... 🙏🌈👁️❤️

Hi it is great to hear from you I have found since being on trelegy that although my breathing has not gotten much better I seem to be staying about the same I have not gotten much worse in the last two years. As I said I was on two other medications and found as I am sure you know that when you get out of breath there is a point when panic sets in and you are not sure whats about to happen next and can say since being on Trelegy I no longer get to that point any more. So for me its trlegy and a light exercise program each day that keeps me going. Do not know how long you have been dealing with your condition but keep going and remember it is the little things you can do that make your day good. Take care Garry

Bloating in COPD sometimes can be helped by attention to diet and avoiding foods that can cause bloating. You can google "nutritional guides for COPD" and find some good sites. you can also go to www.copdfoundation.org and click on the learn more tab. There's good nutritional advice there as well. If you're experiencing bloating, don't continue eating what you're eating now; try some new things that may help you.

Hi Mila You symptoms sound a lot like mine except I have been diagnosed with emphysema and have been on oxygen for about two years now. I too never had a problem with my stomach in fact I was one of those people who could eat as much as I wanted and never had an ounce of fat on me.I an on Trelogy once a day and it seems to be helping I also have an emergency inhaler that I hardly ever have to use. I have developed a pot belly or bloating in the last two years and my doctor and also my specialist both seem to think it is no big deal.I started getting a massage about one year ago and although it has not reduced my stomach I found that it does seem to help with the muscle pain cause by my condition and of course it really helps to get out and just do something just for you . Can not say if my stomach is caused buy bloating or what they call long lung so it is a good idea to talk with your doctor about your
condition. It is important if you do go for a massage to find a therapist who has some knowledge of copd also I might add that if you plan to see a massage therapist on a regular basis ask about a reduced rate I did and because I see her every two weeks I only pay half her regular rate.

You are the first person to talk about stomach bloating! I have the same problem. Does massage also help that? I’m wondering if the meds I take for COPD could be causing it. I’ve never had this problem before and my diet is basically the same.
