Suggestions For Not Tripping Over Oxygen Tubing Elderly Parent
I run my tubing with the cannula under my shirt and seem to help to keep it behind me. Also, someone posted about putting your tubing in the dryer for a few minutes to help soften it up, making it much easier to straighten it out. Worked well for me.
I am no longer on oxygen, but I was, and when I was on oxygen 24/7 I had a 50ft tube that connected to my concentrator that I was able to walk around and reach "most" areas in my bedroom, bath, great room and kitchen. I had to take it off to reach some areas. My first tubing was good and stayed pretty straight but when I changed it out several months later the new 50ft tube tended to stay curled and kinked up and was a mess. I tripped over it one day by stepping on it and it threw me to the ground in my bedroom, which fortunately was carpeted and I did not hurt myself or break any bones. Getting up off the floor was interesting though....... there was another post on here about straightening up your tubing, perhaps you should check that out.
I had to get used to sitting on the bed, positioning the tubing behind me when I stood up so I didn't step on it, and being careful where I stepped as I walked. Since I had 50 feet of it most of it was always on the ground somewhere. Stepping on it was always a danger for me. I took pains to carefully straighten the trail of the tubing from the concentrator to me and see that it lay straight on the floor to the side, example in the bedroom so that when I got out of bed I could walk next to it and not on it. My concentrator sat just inside of my bedroom door to give me the most footage to walk around the house.
Its something you have to get used to and train yourself to manage. I hope she does not live alone.
Good idea, I’m going try that. If it’s not me tangled up, it’s my dog tangled in it. Have a good night. Breathe easy.
Thanks! I'm going to try what you have suggested because I constantly have to fight with the tubing and it works my nerves and I am going to rearrange my living room dining room combo so I can get the oxygenator out of my bedroom because I almost got hurt when my foot got caught in the tubing and the electric cords that run across the doorway to the bedroom. The tubing reminds me of the long phone cord that was on our wall phone and it was always tangled up.
Never heard that before. Im going to give that a try. I use a 50ft one and my dog or me is always tripping on it cause it is always curled up. That would be a Godsend! Thank you!
