MRI Of Brain VS Cognitive Ability (nomal MRI Brain)
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I just received a call from the neurologist. She stated my brain scan was completely normal. I asked regarding the age of my brain and said it was normal. I have stage 3 severe COPD. It appears after 3pm my cognitive ability decreases. At one point I went to the kitchen and didn't know why I when there. I'm 59 years old and has had COPD for 20 years. While I am grateful I don't have a tumor I am confused why all of the sudden I am having severe memory issues. It concerns me that I can no longer… read more

I'm assuming that the neurologist did some other testing besides a brain scan. My husband had a similar experience. As it turned out, he'd had a major surgery where a bunch of things went wrong about 20 years prior. A neuropsychologist determined that a brain injury had occurred then and while Jay had developed a lot of tools that worked for him, eventually all his tricks didn't work as well any more and it looked as though his short term memory was shot. The neuropsychologist was able to help him develop a new set of tools that worked quite well for him until his death. That's one possibility and my guess is there are a number of others that a good neuropsychological workup could identify. That's where I'd head for answers.

I could be the lack of oxygen going to your brain I am on 24/7 oxygen and check my stats on a regular basis a healthy person should have readings of 98% because of my COPD I manage only 90% if your readings go into the low regions of 70% that can start to cause brain hypoxia, also cause damage to vital organs hope this is helpful 🤗🤗🤗

Lack of oxygen doesn't help.

I have no clue. I’m 71 and cannot multitask very well anymore. Not sure if it’s brain or just not feeling strong anymore. I had a hemorrhagic stoke 3 years ago and happy I can function but I know that I have deficits in speech & concentration in driving. I must focus all my attention on the task at hand. Maybe the COPD just makes us tired?
