I have 170% hyperinflation and long lungs, which are pressing my diaphragm down and causing all sorts of bowel issues. Anyone else have a similar problem? It's driving me crazy.
I think it has to do with where all your emphysema is located. Mine is in the upper lung, and that’s where they would do the reduction. It doesn’t work if the emphysema is spread out all over the entire lung. At least that’s my understanding of it.
I have them too, i am scheduled for lung volume reduction surgery which should reduce the long lungs and take pressure on my diaphram. Has anyone had this surgery and if so,to what sucess?
Normal and definitely a trademark of Emphysema. The Docs called it Barrel-chest years ago. An XRay nurse described it to me. Now I mention it First so they don't have to Yank me off the hospital bed to take another set of scans! Infections can end up in the lower portion of the lungs which can't be seen on the first shot.
. While standing, any forceful breathing routines you do which can push OUT more old air will help relieve the discomfort some. Take care.
Long lungs are pretty common among people with COPD, and often cause gastric issues. I suggest you talk with your PCP about what you might do to help your situation.
Hi, Hourglass, can I ask what criteria were used in the selection?
