Life Expectancy, Mild Emphysema
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi, I am 47 scared, I was diagnosed with mild emphysema from a CT scan. I have no other symptoms, I have quit smoking since.

Has anyone had success, keeping it mild and living well for many years?

I was diagnosed with COPD Emphysema at 54 years old. That was 34 years ago. I am on O2 24/7 at 3.5 ltr now. Wander up and down my halls and downstairs to the lobby to visit every couple of days. Out to appointments. I am on the Trelogy puffer once per day and a rescue puffer, incase!!! That's it and I am 87 years young. The worst thing is stress or anxiety.....Learn to "purse lip breathe and go for pulmonary rehab as soon as you can. You got this man.😊 🙏❤️

I was diagnosed in 2000 with severe COPD. Using exercise and a great diet plan, I lost over 100 pounds and still exercise today. My lung function has been stable since then, hovering in the mid 30s. With life-style changes, no smoking, you can probably stay very stable for years. Being active is important, exercise is critical and making sure you catch respiratory problems quickly and don't get really sick are the keys to stability. I still work part-time, travel by air as a COPD advocate, see my grandchildren and great-grands, am active in my church......life is good!
